11 Important Skills You Need To Become Successful

I think the key skill for everyone has is the ability to think and problem solve.

These skills are what makes a person successful. A person with these skills will always be better than someone without them. Being successful comes down to having a set of skills that enable you to do something better than other people.

11 Important Skills You Need to Become Successful

If you can find a way to make a living doing what you love, you will be successful.
Success is not just about hard work and getting lucky.
It is about working smart and getting better.
You need to know how to get better or else you would never get better.

1) Negotiation

Negotiation isn’t just a skill that people use only when they’re involved in the business world. You’re always negotiating with friends, family, and with everyone you come in contact with daily. Negotiating is a skill everyone should learn.

When you are negotiating a deal with someone, it doesn’t have to be a big or important deal — just a basic deal. When you do a deal with someone, you should leave the other person thinking that you got the better end of the deal.

Well it just depends how much you trust your client to keep an open mind and have a good sense of negotiation. Because they could easily go ahead and sign away their rights and you won’t even realize it until it is too late. Like I said it is a bit of both but you have to trust that your client is looking out for you.

Negotiation can make the difference between getting what you want and not getting what you want. Simple as.

2) Long Term Vision

Many people are so busy in their lives with work, school, and other commitments, that they don’t have time to think about their future. That’s why many of them find themselves in a stressful situation.

As a result of all the work that they’re putting in now, there’s a very real possibility that the long term vision they have will become a reality.

When I was a kid, my aunt gave me a book on “How to be your own best friend”. I’m not sure what she was thinking but the title was a dead giveaway.

3) Resilient

The key is to not give up. If you fail, try again. Don’t worry if you’re not getting better. At the start it is unlikely that you’ll be the best at what you do. You will be very poor at it. But, it’s the journey that will get you to the finish line. So don’t stop trying.

I’ve been really interested in a lot of things, but I never really got into anything. Like if I were to say, the last few years were my best years ever. Like I just have been kind of… I’ve been really excited and happy about a lot of things, but just never got a chance to be able to do anything. I always seemed to be too busy doing things.

It is very sad that as a nation, we no longer have the ability to produce quality workers.

The ability to be resilient and patient comes with the opportunity to really find out what you are good at.

4) Initiative

When I was a kid I used to dream of being a writer. I used to write poetry and stories and all the usual things.

Finally at age 16 I decided to write a book. The result? A book that has sold over 3 million copies around the world and has been translated into 23 different languages.

There’s nothing wrong in being a team player. But sometimes, you also need to be an individual. You can’t always be doing things together with everyone. Sometimes it’s necessary to go it alone. As Gandhi once said – “be the change you want to see in the world”.

5) Leadership

There’s definitely a difference in the way that leaders are developed in different organizations. In some organizations, there’s a lot of focus on the leaders, and in other organizations, the focus is more on the followers.

~~If you really want to make it in this world, then you’re going to have to be the one who’s making the decisions. ~~You’re going to have to be the One in control ~~You’re going to have to be the one who’s taking the action.

6) Financial Decision Making

And I’m not talking about investing it in just some money that will be saved, but I’m talking about investing it in themselves, I’m talking about investing in their education. I’m talking about investing in skills that they need for their future.

A lot of people are in fear of losing their money. Sometimes it may be a fear of not having enough money to pay for something or not being able to fulfill a dream. You may have a dream but you’re afraid to actually pursue it. It’s always best to not be afraid.

Well if it’s your dreams and you’re willing to put in the time and effort then you should get it done.

To get a successful life, you need to take control of your money and your health; you need to spend wisely and invest in yourself. Otherwise, money’s just another way you’re wasting yourself.

This is one of the most important skills you can have.

7) Mentally Driven

It’s important that you understand your goals. If you don’t, you’ll waste so much time chasing them because you’ll always end up getting distracted by your failures. You need to set long-term goals to have a clear vision of where you want your career to go.

What drives me is, as I said earlier, is to keep moving forward. It’s to keep looking at the challenges that I face, but also the ones that are in the past. That keeps me motivated and happy.

8) Observation

The ability to observe and comprehend the details of a situation is important to becoming a successful entrepreneur. If you walk into a room, and you instantly know what’s going on around you, you’ll be able to understand the environment and situation that you’re in, and be able to react and adapt to it much more quickly.

One example is in business, with the business you look at different markets. One example is in business, when you are looking at the markets and you see that the culture of those markets.

It creates an advantage for you because you’re able to see things before other people do. Learn to be observant.

9) Imaginative

With our lives more like simulations than literal, what do we do in life if we don’t live in our imaginations? If we can’t dream in our life then we’re not really living it.

I’m telling you, the minute you believe somebody has a negative opinion about you, your life will quickly end up in the trash.
Because when the world finds out that you are a fraud, they will take you very easily (in my experience).
That’s why it’s important to have a positive point of view about yourself.
You need to think about your self-image, and then you need to think about how to project this image.

Not only are there a ton of ways to make money and even more ways to lose money, there are also a lot of ways to learn these skills and make money. If you want to succeed, you need to be a student of the world, of your own life and of humanity.

10) Focus

Focus is basically being able to maintain interest, focus and determination on your craft, even when you feel like giving up. It’s being able to get yourself back into the moment and keep trying, even when it feels like things are just too hard.

The process will be incredibly repetitive and boredom can often strike especially when you’re in a period of no results.

I’m working on things I care about, even if I am not completely focused on them. The idea is not to get completely focused on it, but to have 100% focus for a short time, for a purpose, so you can learn something new.

11) Communication

Communication is critical, and fits in well with the skill of negotiation, I’ve mentioned earlier. It particularly important within business that your communication with others is of a great standard. It’s essential for business to maintain a level of communication with everyone involved.

If you do not communicate the vision of your company, most of this is going to be a waste of time, money, and effort.

I’m not sure if there is a particular thing that each department has to do, but I do know that you are in a business that needs to get its hands dirty. A business that’s more than willing to work with those whose hands are dirty and who have dirt under them.

So how can that be made transparent?
Just by having two different tracks, one where you have a bug-fixing track and one where you have a new feature track, so that the work that’s planned for a new feature can be tested as soon as possible, and the people who are going to do that can collaborate with the rest of the team.

Ending Notes

The more you apply yourself, the more you get out of life and the more you can make yourself better.
