Bill Gates was born the day before Thanksgiving in the year 1954. His parents were William H. Gates Sr. and Mary Maxwell Gates. Bill’s father, Bill Sr. was a teacher.

The Gates family was very careful about encouraging competition, even their own children. It didn’t matter what the competition was, there was always a reward for winning and there was always a penalty for losing.

When he was thirteen, Bill joined the Lakeside School; and when he was in the eighth grade the Mothers’ Club at the school used proceeds to purchase a Teletype Model 33 ASR terminal and a block of computer time on a GE computer.

Gates was interested in programming and was excused from math classes, so he could pursue his interest.

The CCC said that they caught Bill Gates and his friends using a computer to get free time at an Ohio library. He was banned from the facility for a year.

While studying, he realized how it was possible for people to create things when they didn’t have access to any technology. He wanted to help people who were not allowed to use the computers at school.

Career
