Bill Gates’ Success Lessons

I’ve compiled a list of 10 lessons Bill Gates has given to show others what it takes to become successful and wealthy.

How will you learn the skills and knowledge you need to be successful later in life?

Make more than you think you can.

He is the richest man in the world, so don’t hesitate to listen!

1. Start as Early as Possible

This is the biggest and most important lesson Bill Gates learned. He started early.

Bill Gates was 13 years old when he started working with computers. When you start something at an early point in your life, you become molded around it. You get addicted to it. And you cannot shake it off easily.

A lot of people who have failed in other aspects of life have the tendency to give up and drop out. You, on the other hand, would have a greater chance of never giving up.

If you’re looking for a career that will be exciting, then your work will be much more exciting than your boss’s work.

The only thing you have on your mind is how to achieve your goals and get there in the quickest time possible.

When you’re younger you see what people and other people have been successful at and you say, “oh I’m going to think that way too”. When you’re older, you’ll be looking around and seeing what people are doing and saying, you’ll have better perspective.

2. Enter into Partnerships

Bill Gates was kind of ‘Sidekick’ of Richard Stallman, and Bill Gates used to get him into things. This is even though Richard Stallman was much more powerful than Bill Gates.

He was happy that he would finally have the chance to meet other entrepreneurs and learn from them how they have succeeded in their business.

And his friends are people that are known to be smart, that have successful careers, and that are interested in helping and investing in him.

3. You Will Not Make $60,000 a Year Right out of High School

Although people may look at a college degree as a sign of wealth, it actually might not really mean that much. Many people go to college and aren’t really taught anything of any real value. It’s not that any education is worse than the high school diploma, it’s just that there are many poor excuses for degrees out there.

You won’t get appointed CEO of a multi-national company just because you have an MBA degree.

That’s a position that they need to earn, by either starting their own company and working hard to take it to the top or working their way up within a company and proving themselves to people.

4. Be Your Own Boss as Soon as Possible

Bill Gates was always successful, but he always had to fight for his success. He didn’t get a chance to enjoy it without competition, and even now that he could afford it, he still has to fight to keep it that way.

If you don’t build your dream someone else will hire you to build theirs.

5. Don’t Whine About Your Mistakes, Learn from Them

There is only one person you should have to blame for your mistakes and that is you. You have chosen to make bad decisions and that is your fault alone. You should not bring any other people into it. You are responsible for your own actions and for your life.

Mistakes are made to be learned from. I’ve now had the experience of what not to do once and it’ll show me what NOT to do the next time.

6. Be Committed and Passionate

I think this is always included by every entrepreneur as a good bit of advice. You need to be committed to what you love and have a great passion for what you do. This, more than anything else, will make your work more meaningful and satisfying. But it is not easy to be passionate about what we do, especially when we are the ones doing it.
And then there is another more subtle and perhaps harder to measure, but very important aspect of the entrepreneur’s life.

The people who are successful in life are the ones who love what they do. They always look upon the good side of life and think positively. They always have an optimistic outlook on everything.

7. Life is the Best School, Not University or College

A university or college does not prepare you for life in the real world, but if you read books from different perspectives while you are still in school then you will be better prepared for life in the real world.

Jobs that are good do not just involve studying and you are just a student. It’s real-life work that you can do even if you are just a student.

If you think your boss is tough, wait until you become an employee. He doesn’t have a degree.

So…

8. Be Nice to Nerds

People who you’d probably class as ‘nerds’ work the hardest in life, and are probably the fastest at getting things done, which is why they do the best.

If you’re horrible to nerds, then you’re basically taking your chances with fate, because you could easily end up working for a nerd, or even applying for a position at a company that is run by a nerd you know, and have been horrible to in the past.

Yes, I know that I am qualified for the position.

It’s a fact that if you are at all connected, you are a node in a network.
In the digital ecosystem, the network will become part of you.
A network can be public or private, large or small, as well as the scale of
data storage and the processing power needed to make the data useful.
It can also be private, personal, or something more.

9. TV is Not Real Life

People in the United States are so afraid of each other, that some people have to tell you what they are going to do behind your back.

No one wants to work 80 hour weeks and get no benefit of the hard work. This is especially true in a world where we have increasing inequality. We need to ensure everyone has access to high quality education and training, so they can access a quality job to support themselves and their families.

Bill Gates was talking about the difference between a TV and real life. In real life people can actually leave the coffee shop and go to work.

10. Life is Not Fair

Bill Gates says that you need to learn that in life life is not fair and you don’t always get to win.

Life is not easy, but you can cope with it. You are here to make the best of it. Sometimes, you may think you made the best of it, but you always have something to learn from it. You can always better yourself and do better next time.

You don’t have to be a perfect person to get things done. If you are constantly apologizing for your mistakes and bad behavior, you will end up being a failure. You must learn that we all have to make mistakes. We make mistakes and learn from it and move on for the best.

11. Be Ready to Takes Risks

The good thing about having a business is that you’re not always sure if it will be successful or not. However, you can definitely work on it and develop a plan.

Bill Gates said that it’s a good idea to believe in the things that you want to achieve. It’s a matter of believing in your goals and working hard to achieve them.

Sometimes we find ourselves being rejected by people and this can be very hard to deal with. At the end of the day, if you know that you are in the right, nobody will be able to stop you.

The “business” is a competition with no rules and a lot of risk.

12. Never Fast Forward Your Way to Success

When starting a business most people don’t have the right mindset. They think its a one size fits all business. They think of that and that alone. They don’t understand the market and how their business can be successful. Not the average person who’s starting a business.

There is no easy way. Don’t think the path will be paved for you. You are going to have to work, work, work until you get the success you are looking for.

This is a hard process, it takes patience and time. Consistency is much more important than being the best at the beginning.

– If you can’t be patient, your success will be short-lived.
– If you’re impatient, your success will be short-lived.

13. Be Proud of Who You Are

It is not a good idea to envy the success of others. It’s like saying, “I’m not good enough.” You will never be satisfied if you don’t feel good about yourself. I hope you continue to learn and never stop progressing.

To become successful, you have to accept that you are going to be different than others.

When you decide to grow your business, you can also think about finding a new job.

Don’t compare yourself to other people. If you do so, you are insulting yourself.

14. Be Humble at All Times

You’ve got a great team. People are working around the clock to get you up and running, but you’ve got to make sure you’re not starting to think too highly of yourself.

The world is big and we all make our own decisions. I believe in being humble and never forgetting what got me here, the fact that I am still here.

Success is a lousy teacher. If a person is smart, they will know better.

15. Take Things Positively & Love Learning

Bill Gates was never able to completely satisfy his customers, but he considered these customers as an advantage. He took their comments and inputs and improved his work.

If people hear criticism and bad feedback they become discouraged. Their drive to succeed goes down.

But if you think about it, there can be good consequences to this negativity. Learn from your mistakes and shortcomings and use that as a catalyst to be the best in what you do.
If you think about it, this is the same as the sentence above or the following.

If you’re your customer’s greatest source of learning, you’re doing something very, very wrong. This is a very powerful quote and one that you should take to heart. Your greatest source of learning should be from your customers, and your customers should give you feedback so that you can address issues.

16. Accept Failures & Move On

Failure is not the opposite of success. Success is what happens when you fail. Failure is merely the practice of something so you’re going to do better the next try.

When you succeed, you will learn lessons. You’ll be happy you have no regrets and everyone will praise you. But when you fail, in the dark, everything will go dark and you will know how it is to suffer. You will get to know the real ones from the fake ones.

Think of all the times you have failed, and what you did to learn from them. Use that knowledge, and you’ll achieve success.

We need to figure out a way to change our thinking in order to find work that matters.

17. Share Your Success With Others

Bill Gates said that to be successful you need to have positive impact on others.

But, if you have achieved a few achievements, you realize that these were very small achievements.

You have to know when to say when, and when to say when. An entrepreneur has to know when to tell others what to do and when to leave it alone.

As we can see in today’s world, leaders will be those who empower others.

Summary

Bill gates has many lessons from success. One of his most important lesson is to focus on your work and focus on goals.
