9. Lynnewood Hall, USA
Unfortunately, the magnificent mansion in Elkins Park is now vacant and boarded up. The 110-room property, which was built in Neo-Classical Revival design, was originally designed for Peter A.B. Widener.
He was an avid art collector and commissioned Lynnewood after a tragic incident. After a yacht trip, Widener’s wife Hannah was killed.
He was so devastated by his grief that he fled their Philadelphia home and built this massive mansion for his family. Peter Widener’s only son George died on the Titanic.
