Early Life
Ann began making appearances in network news programs during the mid 1980s, at first as a reporter and then as a correspondent and anchor.
Her mother is of Japanese and American descent. She was born in Japan but spent most of her early life in the United States, attending elementary and middle school in Pueblo, Colorado.
Curry had an early interest in basketball in his youth and attended the Ernest J. King School on the United States Fleet Activities Sasebo naval base in Sasebo, Nagasaki.
After graduating from high school, she moved to Ashland, Oregon.
Career
Curry moved to KGW in 1980 to become a reporter and anchor. She left in 1988 to become an anchor at KATU.
Curry moved to Los Angeles four years later after starting at KCBS-TV.
She joined NBC News later on, serving as a substitute news anchor for Matt Lauer from 1994 to 1997 on Today.
She was the first African American female anchor at WNBC and the second to do so in American television.
At the end of 2006, NBC announced that Curry would be joining Today as co-anchor alongside Ann Curry.
Curry left Today at the end of 2008, following a contract dispute with NBC. She rejoined the show in October 2009.
