Amancio Ortega Net Worth

Ortega is worth an estimated $10.2 billion, according to Forbes.

Introduction

He’s worth almost $70 Billion and he’s planning on buying Spain.  If he goes after Spain, it will certainly be a big deal.

Amcio Ortega Gaona was born in 1961. He is the founder and former chairman of Zara fashion group. Zara is a brand of Inditex, a Spanish multinational fashion retailer headquartered in La Coruña. Ortega is one of Spain’s richest businessmen.

He is the second richest person in Europe, after the French billionaire Bernard Arnault.
He’s second richest person in the whole world after the American billionaire Larry Ellison.

Early Life

He joined in his parents’ small grocery shop and he learned the trade by doing the errands for the business. He then started his own own shop one year later. At the age of 22, he started working as a clerk in the local municipal council. He spent a few years in the council before selling his share in the shop and moving away from it.

Ortega was a humble man, who lived a simple life. He loved his job and had a great passion for music. He was also extremely talented when it came to guitar, but never took music seriously. Instead, he would spend his free time playing on the balcony of his house, or smoking in his backyard. He was very close friends with another artist at the time, known only as José. His first professional album, produced by José, was recorded in a studio in Madrid. The album was never released, because after two days the tape was stolen by the studio engineer, and Ortega was left with no choice but to continue recording by himself.

Career

The couple opened their first Zara store in 1972. Zara became a worldwide brand that was sold in every country in the world.

Zara owns more than 6000 stores worldwide and is an active fashion retailer, operating under the brands Zara, Massimo Dutti, Oysho, Zara Home, Tempe, Pull and Bear, Bershka and Stradivarius.

The Spanish financial press and the media in general were, however, very interested in the activities and work on the public market of the companies in which he was deeply involved, and a reporter was granted an interview with him during the first meeting of his company (which is where the news about his involvement in corruption was published).

While in 2011, it was speculated that he might resign and be replaced by his son-in-law, Isla instead took over the role of CEO, being the first non-family member to assume that role at the company.

But by 2016 he owned more than 60% of the company that owns Zara, so it’s worth $5.2 billion.

Amancio Ortega is a Spanish businessman who is the founder of Zara, the world’s largest fashion retailer, and the world’s fifth richest person according to Forbes. He made his billions in the 1990’s after acquiring the Zara brand out of bankruptcy.
