10 Success Lessons From Jay-z

Jay-Z and Beyonce have a lot of success lessons. Like one of Jay-Z’s success lessons is to do whatever it takes to get ahead in whatever you do.

In addition to owning his own company, Jay-Z has a $50 million dollar apartment in New York, a $60 million dollar estate in the Hamptons and a $12 million dollar mansion in Atlanta.

The record is still going strong, and his success has only continued to increase, but the way he does it is very much about the people around him.

Jay-Z’s Success Lessons

He has now become the first rapper to get that rich.

Well, it’s definitely a fact that Rocawear & Roc-A-Fella Records as a whole have brought us some of the best rappers of all time, so it’s safe to say that it’s safe to say that Jay-Z is a pretty good rapper.

Jay-Z’s business moves are based on common sense, not rocket science.

1. Hustle

In 2009, Jay-Z released his third studio album, Kingdom Come. All the songs that were released were hits, however, the album wasn’t what people expected.

When he was old enough to start wanting to go out and make his own money, the only real option he had where he lived was to go out and deal drugs. The only thing we can do now is to educate people to the realities of the real world.

He started out of pure necessity, but like Usher, he quickly recognized his talents as a rapper, and it wasn’t long before his talents started to grow.

2. Have an ‘Empire State of Mind’

With the help of his label Roc-a-Fella and a record label deal with a major label (Columbia Records), rap and the Roc-a-Fella album The Dynasty: Roc La Familia sold over 1 million copies within its first three years on Billboard 200 charts. To put this into perspective, The Dynasty: Roc La Familia was released in 1998, just two years after The Blueprint was released which would go on to sell more than 2 million copies.

Being an entrepreneur you have to be willing to take on risks. While your competitors are asleep, you should be preparing yourself for the possibility of being shut down. I think this is one of the biggest lessons any aspiring entrepreneur should learn.

3. Don’t Wait Until You Have The Tools

Many people seem to get stuck in the mindset that they should not start anything until they have everything they need.

This is not the natural order of things. Money leads to work, which leads to growth, which leads to investment in the correct equipment, which then leads to more money.

No, Jay-Z didn’t start off with only his hands on a table. He originally just played beats with his hands on a table.

Jay-Z is the ultimate hustler. He has worked extremely hard to make it to where he is. He started at the bottom like all of us and ended up being one of the most wanted people in the music industry.

4. Have a Plan

Jay Z created his own business model, which includes social media, marketing, and content. He wanted to make sure the company was built solidly before he started making moves, not before he had a good idea of what he was doing.

A lot of times when people don’t have a plan in place, they actually forget a lot of information. They don’t have a paper copy which reminds them what to do before they get into a big meeting, and they end up giving some poor presentation that completely leaves them blank. So, having a paper copy of your plan is crucial to have.

5. An Idea Could Strike at Any Time

There never is a dull moment, especially when a new idea pops into your head. As long as you don’t have any obligations, you can always sit down and think about new ideas.

One day, Jay-Z was walking around with his buddies and one of his friends told him that one of the rappers he worked with was a fan. The rapper then told Jay-Z that he really enjoyed a particular song he made which was about the late rapper Tupac. The rapper then told Jay-Z that he’d always wanted to make a song about Tupac.

That’s why you have to take care of every element in your business to be a success.

6. Don’t Run Your Mouth

If you start telling people your goals and dreams, you can be sure that they will hear the best and worst things about you. At least, some of it will be true.

Avoiding talking about your dreams is also a great way to avoid distraction but if you feel the need to talk to others about your dreams then try and avoid gossip.

7. Skills Can be Transferred

Jay-Z didn’t attend or obtain any college degree; instead, he started his career at the age of 17, working as a young delivery boy in Harlem, New York. As a young man in New York, he was a regular at street corners, dealing drugs, and doing odd jobs.

In his early 20s he was arrested for drug dealing and was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment.

Jay-Z can be said to be the founder of the whole street and gangster hip hop scene because his lyrics, style of rap and attitude are what made it popular. So even though his first and only real gangster rap album wasn’t really successful, he did a great job of spreading his knowledge about the street and gangster life throughout the whole hip hop community.

8. Ignore Trends

The music industry had its own version of Auto tune. There were so many features that the artists’ music didn’t have to be played all the way through, the beat would start and stop, and the chords would change. This was popular in the music industry because as technology improved, artists would only use the most necessary features.

You don’t have to have talent to sell out, Jay-Z proved that. He didn’t have to be a rapper to be rich. He became a businessman, and made that his medium.

9. Don’t Take Your Eyes off the Prize

I know this is easy to do but the sooner you can start living like you’re already rich, the sooner you’ll be able to get on with your life.

The second thing I’d like you to try is to take a moment and write down each of the things that you want to be different about your life in the coming year. These things might not seem that important or valuable to you now, but if you can begin to develop a ‘wish-list’ then the things that make it into your list will all the more likely to become a reality.

10. Start a Blog

Jay-Z did this because he realized that writing down his thoughts and feelings is easier than screaming them out, because he’s loud. Also, he was able to get back into the flow of writing when he was out of the creative flow.
