Early Life
Masseling started working as a sound engineer in 1997. He worked on various projects, ranging from music to film & TV. He also worked on a few remixes of artists such as Katy Perry, Chris Brown and many more. In 2007 Masseling released his first EP. Since then, Masseling has released many tracks on various labels. He signed over to Black Ghost Audio later that year.
The label decided to release this EP under the name Menace II Society. The label owner felt that the name sounded like a band. Menace II Society was the name given to an experimental project Mark Vos did. It was a test for different sound textures. The label head liked the name.
Career
Masseling began his solo career in early 2001 after sending a demo to BZRK Records, a label that was run by Mark Vos. Vos found the tape and liked it, and decided to sign him. Masseling then released his first EPs, ‘Menace II Society’ and ‘Angerfist’. At the same time, he created the project ‘Voodoo People’ which became a part of his career.
The “gabber scene” is known for it’s aggressive style and this one person made it into a name.
He uses a double-bass drum, a bass drum, some samples from movies (‘A Fistful of Dynamite’, etc.), and a keyboard.
The drum machine in his music is a Korg Wavestation which he uses to create a drum loop. He also uses a keyboard, a laptop, a MIDI controller and a microphone.
In 2012 he performed at the Mysteryland festival in the Netherlands, as well as the Defqon.1 festival in Croatia.
It was announced in 2013 that Prozac (DJ Bloodcage) and Angerfist would be the new live face of the project. (MC Prozac and Angerfist are both involved in the studio side of the project).
