Career 

It started in 1974 when Ian St John spotted the 17-year-old playing for the youth team.
The young striker scored on his debut three days later and quickly became a favourite with the Pompey fans.
Kamara’s goalscoring form earned him a professional contract at the end of the season, with Pompey manager Ian St John paying the fee to release him from his apprenticeship at Portsmouth.
The striker was now earning a wage of £20 a week.

In his first season in the first team he played mainly as a substitute, scoring his first goal in a 3-0 win over Queens Park Rangers. However, he was unable to prevent Portsmouth from being relegated from the First Division. He was only given the chance at centre-forward in the last game of the season, but he was not a factor in the 5-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur.

Chris went on to play for Portsmouth as a regular player in the Second Division for four seasons, helping the club to win the third place in the 1976-77 season.

During the 1981-82 season he came on as substitute in a 3-0 home defeat to Oldham Athletic on 31 October 1981 and also played in a 3-0 loss to Derby County at the Baseball Ground on 22 April 1982.

In 1992 Kamara returned to England after his loan spell at Sheffield United had ended and he joined Crystal Palace. But it was only the beginning of a long spell in the Premier League.
