When The Gaslight Anthem recorded in Chicago in 2011, the band “pretty much” had never played together, and even though they were trying to write their best songs, they weren’t sure yet what the band was.
I can’t be bothered with the context but yeah, that’s a good example of how the pop culture industry is responsible for influencing people to be interested in music. But it wasn’t Alan Freed doing that – that’d have been the American radio companies, who only wanted to broadcast hit songs.
The music is the same as in the past, but there are a few more people singing. We’ve added a few more people, the drums are a bit different to fit the new style. The songs that are being written are the same as in the past.
After being dropped by his former label and losing a bunch of money, he spent a year learning how to write and record his own songs on his own and his record just came out. It’s not a huge record and it’s not a big record, but it’s definitely a solid record. It’s a nice little record, and I hope you’ll like it.

Rothermel & Sieling recorded one album, “Ridgetop” in 2002, and in 2005 I released the album “Ridgetop II” with a group of musicians I called the Ridgetop Roadhouse Band.
I feel like this record is a mix of Elephant Mountain and a bunch of other bands. I think it’s a great mix. I love “The Great Divide” with the horns, and I love the way Charlie sings in that record. That’s the first time I ever heard him sing something like that. I love “Hole in the Mountain,” and I love “I Just Don’t Know,” which is a great song and I love the way Tristan sings.
In 1995, the band rented a house in Marin County, California, which allowed them to play a more intimate show. This also gave them some much needed autonomy and space to write songs. In their new location, the band started playing more often and were able to meet new people and make new connections. I think that when “Wastebabes” was recorded, the band was at an interesting time in its life musically, with the departure of Andy and the addition of Jesse and Tristan. It was a time in which they were learning their instruments, and I think that Jesse and Tristan were able to bring a great warmth and energy that made the songs that they were writing, a new and different sound.
There’s a couple of songs that were really tricky for the band to figure out what to do with. “What’s Done” was one that I think was on the chopping block. It has some interesting riffs and it’s kind of a fun song and fun to play live. I think it would have been a fun song to put on a record, but for some reason it didn’t make it. I think it would have been better to not have it on this record than to make it fit in somewhere and it’s just not.

I’ve tried to take the approach that with the band, if we’re gonna do something, then everyone’s gonna do it first, so if there’s something that we thought is cool and it doesn’t really fit, you know, we’ll try it.
