The most important thing is to live your life outside of the office. You should do everything you want to do, so that you’re not chained to a desk every day.

1) Stop Being Available 24/7

Make sure to let people know when you’re going to be available after work hours, or you’ll run into a situation where people want to contact you in the middle of the night for an emergency issue.

It may seem like I’m asking you to close off all social media, but it is imperative that you have a safety net in case of an emergency. If you are unsure, send out an email to your work email account letting them know you are unplugged at night and on the weekends.

2) Don’t Bring Work Home with You

It is a hard concept to understand but it is true. You want to have a clear distinction between your work and your personal life. By separating the two, you will be free to pursue your personal life.

This may require not checking email until after you finish your work at the office and not using work email for personal communication.

It is inevitable to stay late when you have to work. If you need to work late, it may be better to work at the office until the wee hours than to work in the comfort of your own home.

3) Cultivate New Interests and Hobbies

Not everybody can work from 9-5 and not be a super productive and efficient worker. For those people there are work-life balance strategies such as working from home which frees up a lot of time and energy to pursue other hobbies, interests and activities.

5) Use All of Your Vacation Time

Working long hours takes a toll on our health, it also takes a toll on our creativity. If your employees are working extra hours, they are likely running out of time to be creative. To avoid that, give your employees time to recharge and take a break. If they feel like they are doing more than they can take, they are likely to burn out.

Some experts agree that this might be a good strategy for a while, even if you just work on fun projects or tasks that don’t require your top performance.
